A key aspect to South African media appears to be the different pseudo government agencies that have a role in the media system. There is the MDDA, the Press Council of South Africa. Are there others? These seem to all be involved in self-regulation of media and of ensuring fairness and representation of different groups from within media.
How much of this is government regulated? These are key questions in comparative work because the U.S. view of journalism is that government should take no role in regulating the press and that when it does, it is impinging on First Amendment rights.
